work now, working dog later

It’s no secret or surprise that the work we put into our puppies now help predict their futures. We know just how critical this effort is for working dogs, especially those who will need extensive specialization training.

the process

1. evaluation

If your puppy hasn’t been evaluated by us before, then s/he will be required to complete one. This evaluation will let us see his track eligibility. If your puppy isn’t eligible for any of the tracks, then you will be referred to a trusted partner.

2. socialization plan

Once your puppy’s track has been slated, our team will design your puppy’s socialization plan. You have the choice between the formats: DIY, Done for You, or Done with You. There’s no one-size-fits-all depending on your interest in being hands-on, your schedule, and your ability.

how does the socialization plan work?

Socialization sounds like a bunch of puppies playing together, but it’s truly so much more. We focus on these positive exposure experiences in order to capitalize on this critical learning period in their lives. While we follow general guidelines for all puppies, each working dog track has their own additional protocols.

For example: a future detection dog would need to be desensitized to gunfire more than a service dog, so we’d make that a higher priority. The service dog track is still exposed to it, but not at the same degree.

During these exposure trips, we ensure your puppy is comfortable, safe, and enjoying themselves to reduce their stress levels and create a flexible dog. As your puppy ages, we continue this positive exposure through fear phases and developmental stages.

3. foundational training

Throughout the Socialization Plan, we’ll also be establishing clear communication lines between you and your dog while teaching them how to enjoy training. Our training here is focused on house manners, basic obedience, and game-based training.
